We take great pride in our membership, especially those that served or continue to serve this great country of ours. We have many members that currently serve on active duty or are former or retired members of the armed forces.
We dedicate this section to our members currently deployed. We ask for your prayers and continued support for them and their families.
Station donations
We thank the following businesses and organizations for their generous donations that support the mission of Half Moon Volunteer Fire Department:
I would like to welcome you to our fire department. As a department, we take pride in serving you and protecting those who protect us. We are unique because of the way we operate and train. We operate in two areas: Operations and Administration. Operations consists of fire calls, fire trucks, manpower, etc., in which I am responsible for. Mike Richards, our President, is responsible for the day-to-day business on the administrative side.
Just some info on us:
We serve from Emma Thompson Rd to the city line, Circle K store on Gum Branch Rd. From Ramsey Rd to the dump and Rhodestown Rd to the curve.
We train more aggressively than many of the county fire departments. The state requires three (3) hours per month while we require five (5) per month. Our training consists of in house and Certified training. In house means that we have specific goals we want to accomplish., Certified training is classes established by certified Instructors and our local college. We continue to hold IFSAC Certified Firefighter I/II classes at the station.
We continue to strive to be better, and our ultimate goal is to lower property losses. This is done through aggressive training and recruitment of new members.
Our members serve and Chair these committees:
Community Development Committee that is responsible for Fire Prevention, Fund Raising, Firefighters Auxiliary and PR.
Apparatus Committee is responsible for finding vehicles that fill the needs of this community.
Recruitment Committee that is responsible to find ways to increase recruiting by any successful means.
Recruitment:
We are aggressively trying new ideas on recruiting members We need new faces because most of our members are military related and at any time can be deployed. Our members need to be dedicated You will have to read, go to classes, train and answer calls during the day and night. All members go through a training program that covers all areas of firefighting. Once completed, you will sit in front of a board to test out and earn your Red Helmet. I try to encourage all members into taking the Fire Fighter 1 & 2 program to become certified.
Our ISO rating is a 6 and we serve an estimated 8700 people whom live in our fine district.
